Flai is now integrated into Ranger, the mobile mapping and infrastructure extraction platform from New Compass Solutions. Classification runs inside the platform: users trigger it without leaving Ranger, raw LiDAR goes in, and semantically labeled data comes out.
What changes in the workflow
Ranger extracts infrastructure features semi-automatically, and that extraction depends on classified data. Before this integration, analysts had to select and isolate the relevant point classes by hand before extraction could begin. Now that step runs automatically, and the data arrives organized and labeled, ready for Ranger to work on.
Road surfaces, curb lines, guardrails, barriers, poles, pavement markings, ground, vegetation and buildings are separated out in the same pass, so there is nothing to prepare in between.
The second change is that there is no export and import roundtrip. Classification and extraction happen in a single workflow, inside one platform, rather than across disconnected tools.
Why it matters for mobile mapping
Data preparation has always been the time-consuming part of a mobile mapping project. Getting classification out of the way automatically, and keeping it inside the platform the analyst is already working in, changes how much of a corridor one person can realistically get through in a day.
Two things come up consistently from users. Automatic noise removal handles the scan artifacts that otherwise have to be cleaned by hand. And filtering out moving objects, the vehicles and pedestrians captured mid-drive, removes a significant amount of cleanup that used to happen before extraction could even start.
Because the same models run on every dataset, results stay consistent whether the job is a single corridor or a statewide capture.
Working with the integration
Ranger brings the extraction engine and the workflow around it. Flai brings the classification underneath. Together they close the path from raw point cloud to deliverable-ready data without leaving the platform.
